SASSA Care Dependency Grant [2024] – A Complete Guide For Parents

SASSA’s Care Dependency Grant is also known as Disability Child Grant. It is financial support provided by the SA. government to the main heads of the family like parents, foster parents, guardians, and caregivers. This grant is specially allocated for the children who have severe mental and physical disabilities. The aid is only allotted for this kind of child.

When a mentally or physically disabled child is born, He become eligible to get this financial grant from SASSA. Until the age of 18 years, the child is capable of getting this grant but as per the strict terms and conditions, the child’s disability must be examined by the official SASSA’s appointed doctor.

Every SASSA grant comprises predefined terms and conditions in order to qualify for the Child Dependency Grant.

As of all other SASSA programs, the Care Dependency program goes through the same process. The child must submit his/her medical assessment report to the SASSA department. The SASSA officers will review it. Then if you qualify for the grant you can apply for it in two ways. One is to go to the nearest SASSA office where you will allot an application form which you have to fill in the presence of a SASSA officer.

They will assist you through the whole process. And after completing the form, they will conduct an interview and if you passed that interview they will surely give you a stamped receipt and then you will receive a grant on the issued date.

There are different criteria and policies for each grant. However, CDG grants have some features. From this grant the government of SA ensures that the deserving child must receive money with intense care and the caregiver or parents fully take care of the child with no financial issues. This grant helps needy people through a transparent system. The eligible candidates receive an amount to manage the child treatment cost.

To register yourself you need to qualify for the SASSA Means test. According to this test the SASSA team checks the financial resources of the applicant and ensures that the deserving family qualifies for the grant. Agencies calculate the financial resources, income, and other sources of income. If you do not meet the criteria you will be disqualified from receiving the grant.

As per SASSA grant rules every grant has different rules of income. For CDG income of a person (caregiver, parent) must not be more than 20800 per month. The applicant who  is married with both spouses income not high from 499200 per year.

The care dependency grant receives R2 090 per month. This grant is monthly and only paid to eligible applicants. This grant may increase according to new policies and needs.

The dates of SASSA payments vary depending on the circumstances. SASSA grants are not paid on a fixed date. Mostly the dates are previously at the end of the previous month like October month payment released on September’s last dates.

All grants that are under SASSA are increased on 1st april, 2024. The CDG is also increased. According to the Finance Minister. The grants are increased again after 6 months. These grants are increased because of high living costs and inflation.

The CDG is also increased by R100. The previous CDG was 2,090 and now the monthly payment will rise to R2,190. This increase is divided into 2 sections, first will pay in April the amount is 2,180 and after that in October the remaining amount R10 is added to the increment.
